How do I use D2 E-mail System?

There are two ways to use D2 E-mail System,
(1) Open Webmail via web browser, such as IE, Netscape or Mozilla;
(2) Use Mail Client, such as Outlook Express or Netscape Messenger, the config is as following:

POP3 Serve: pop3.nctu.edu.tw, port 110
POP3S (POP3 over SSL) Server: pop3.nctu.edu.tw, port 995

SMTP Server: smtp.nctu.edu.tw (Available in NCTU campus only)
SMTP AUTH Server: d2smtp.nctu.edu.tw

What is SMTP AUTH Server?

We use SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) to send email, but SMTP doesn't provide the function of encryption, hence we cannot ascertain who the sender is, so we permit users in NCTU campus to use SMTP only.

For D2 Email Users, you can use ESMTP (SMTP Service Extensions) to send email even you're at home using ADSL provided by ISPs. ESMPT authenticate the sender to send email.

What is pseudo account?

Why it appears "500 Unsupported Command" message when I use SMTP AUTH?

That is because that you've installed Norton Anti-Virus 2002, and this software intercepts the "STARTTLS" command, and returns a bogus "500 Unsupported Command" response. To avoid this problem, you can disable Norton Anti-Virus email scanning process. The related article is in Securityfocus.

How large the quota is?

D2 Email system provides 20MB for students in school; for the alumns, you have to set the forward email address to forward you email to another email address other than D2 email account.

Can I change my account?

D2 Email System allows students who transfer to another department to change their email accounts only.
